Europe

Europe

Those months have passed from those amazing times, being free not being told what to do, just me and dad the kings of the road, rain, shine, snow and hail nothing could stop us. Our minds buzzing everyday, wondering if we were going to be able to find a place to stay or not, wondering what would be around the corner, we always had to be on point.
We had our ups and downs, but that still didn't stop us, the bond between father and son was unbreakable. Lessons learnt and lessons gained, for the both of us.
Blood, sweat and tears is what we had to go through, restless nights and hard walking.
Luxuries to us had been being able to get water, to have enough money for food and to get a place to stay.
I was up for a challenge and I never regret a day of it.

Paralysed with fear

Beyond All Odds

Paralysed with fear, I watched as my livelihood was fading away. You could hear and see the glass shatter like the pieces of my heart. They stormed into my shop. My home. Smashing everything in their path.

A sea of dark green surrounded me, I could only hope and pray that they would not find my beautiful daughter and lovely wife, hidden in the basement.
Just as that thought crossed my mind they appeared sobbing, hysterically behind me, I could literally smell their fear.

Within a split second the Nazis hands were around them, dragging them kicking and screaming. I summoned all the strength within me and grabbed my daughter free. Screaming at her to run. Run as fast as she could.

A single tear drop fell from her eye, as she turned and ran. Ran for her life.
They dragged me and my wife to a train. A train full of others, others like us. As my wife stopped crying she tried to look around for our daughter, seeing if she had been captured. There was no sign of her anywhere.

As my wife was looking, one of the Nazi soldiers dropped a metal wrench. I acted as quick as I could and grabbed it. There was not a single soldier in sight. I whispered quietly to my wife and said we are free, hold my hand. Follow me.

I stomped hard and felt the floorboards shatter beneath my feet. I as I turned I saw the Nazi soldier grab my wife’s arm, she said to me run find our daughter and I love you. I lowered myself through the floorboards, and laid flat on the track. When the train passed I got up, and ran to where i last saw my daughter, hoping she would be there.

My body froze, dead bodies everywhere surrounding me, I shouted out for my beautiful daughter Ingrid, there was no answer, I shouted again but this time I heard a faint noise of which sounded familiarly like daddy. My mind must have been playing games with me, but it wasn’t. It was really her, I saw a small figure in the distance, and it gradually came closer and closer.

I cried with joy, she ran into my arms. I squeezed her as tight as I could and told her that I loved her and that we would never part again.

The Island

The Island

Alone, is this now my forever?
Hunched over cocooning myself, the harsh grains of sand penetrate my skin.
I can see for miles the deep blue ocean, the same view repeated in all directions.
Isolated miles away from civilisation, afraid of what lies ahead.
I can use my head whilst I’m still sane, searching for tools to enable my survival.
Blood trickles from my hands as I separate the coarse leaves from the trees.
A raft could be the difference between life and death, my lifeline my connection with civilisation.
Has it been hours has it been days? I have no recollection time.
All I have are my memories and past experiences. Are these enough when I see now how many mistakes I have previously made?
Hallucinations are a daily occurrence now. I see ships in the distance or do I?
I taste the lemons in lemonade and the crunch of a carrot, savouring every moment.
The crash of waves awaken me, my lemonade now becomes salt water.
I hear a new sound in the distance it becomes louder and louder.
My body shakes and my eyes open to see her face looking at me.

Father

Father

As time passes on many things will change but your parents will always remain.

Your father will always be there for you no matter what.

To protect and provide for you even in the harshest of times.

Your father teaches you the lessons of life, allowing you to make mistakes and learn.

Your father influences you to aim high and look forward, encouraging you not to look back.

Thank you father for this wonderful life. A life I will appreciate, enjoy and not regret a moment of.

Transition

Transition

The thought of entering a whole new world
sends nerves and concerns through my body and mind.

Do I turn left or do I go right, who will be there to guide me?
An unawareness of my soon to be new surroundings, causes my apprehension levels to rise.

I was once the predator and now I am to become the prey.
Do I get eaten or I am strong enough to survive?

How can one change in circumstance cause me to feel so many different emotions?
Nerves, fear, dread, excitement, exhilaration and wonder.

Do I allow the nerves to consume me or do I fight them and achieve?
Only time will tell.

I should be seeing this as an opportunity for a brand new start and journey.
The change in me has already begun.

Fear

Fear

Sailing, sailing, sailing
What faces me?

It is my destiny to face what lies in front of me.
My heart is pounding like the water
Crashing against my soul.

As I step off the boat,
A lump swells in my throat.
Fear, fear everywhere
I cannot spare a tear anymore.

The Rainforest

The Rainforest
Rain falls through the canopy, onto the murky ground.
Animals to be found, moving all around.
Indigenous people, living off the land.
Natural beauty to be found.
Fantastic species and plants, yet to be discovered.
Outstanding things occur in these parts.
Reptiles as hard as nails, mammals swinging from their tails.
Evolution in every corner, a great life mystery.
Sun rays creeping through the trees, giving the gift of life.
Thousands of living things, all under one roof.
